Inspired design wins New North Community School a worthy place in this year's BCSE shortlist

New North Community School has been shortlisted by the BCSE in the 'Inspiring Design' category for their 2009 annual awards.

Our entry focused on our design approach, improving the use of school facilities within the community and enhancing the schools ability to provide excellence in teaching, a mission advocated by BCSE.

New North School is an amalgamation of two schools with a background of failure, poor behaviour and low expectations.  Working in close partnership with Head teacher, Mary McStay, the staff, children and local residents, the Design Team has succeeded in creating a school, which achieves Mary's vision and symbolically breaks once and for all with its past. 

Parents and staff alike are delighted, exemplified by one parent quoted on Schoolnet "My child had a great time at the new north community school. The best bit is the brand new building and the fantastic teachers"
