14/03/2010
Approved as part of the Council's Primary Strategy for Change as a priority for the first two years of the Primary Capital Programme, the new school will provide 21st Century accommodation for 21st Century learning on a site and in a building with excellent environmental credentials.
Landscape architecture will play a major role in uniting the site, bringing the landscape right up to the edge of the building and creating a strong link between inside and out. The existing natural elements of the site, the trees, the slope and the wetland areas, will be utilized for their landscape and learning potentials by creating opportunities for play, performance, outdoor classrooms or fitness. Colourful elements will be dotted through the design to add fun and excitement to the scheme.
The 45,800m2 school grounds already contain some interesting habitats of wetland, forest and meadows but these areas are currently difficult to access. The new scheme will not only increase the biodiversity of the site but will also increase the usability of the grounds making providing a benefit to both students and wildlife.
